On Dec. 4 and 5, the city of Lancaster hosted the annual Santa Train Express. Because of the generous contributions of the L&C Railroad, Lancaster County, Duke Energy, Comporium Communications and Mayor Ann Taylor of Heath Springs, the Santa Express served more than 600 people. Children of all ages enjoyed two days of taking the Lancaster & Chester Railroad train from the South Pole (Lancaster Depot) to the North Pole (Heath Springs) for a Christmas experience.
Volunteers for the Santa Train were transformed into elves, who took time out of their weekend to ensure that the fantasy of the North Pole became a reality.
Children were able to make several take-home crafts, enjoy the sites and sounds of the Dance Works Christmas Dancers and visit Santa’s Party where an array of sweet treats such as cookies and cakes and hot cocoa awaited them while visiting with Santa.
On behalf of the city of Lancaster, we would like to thank the city of Lancaster Promotions Committee members, Joan Bowers, Eric Rowell, Connie Riggins, Denise Scott, Grace Hilton, Lori Brewer and Blondean Funderburk. We would also like to thank Wendy Martin and the Dance Works dancers and their parents, the Lancaster Lively Dancers and a shoutout of thanks to “Big D” Bruce Dennis Hilton, Gigi and Cara Hasty, Nicholas Faile, Frankie Cunningham, Sharyon Alford, Brittany Canady, Heather Atkins and the students of Joe Timmons’ class in the Andrew Jackson High School Drama Department .
A special thank you goes out to the L&C Railroad staff for their hospitality toward our elves at the Depot and on the train.
The Support Services Department is responsible for bringing entertainment to our beautiful city and for hosting events designed to bring visitors to our city. Even though it is our job these folks go above and beyond to make each event enjoyable to organize and produce. Thank you to the always-supportive Teresa Meeks, Karen Evans, Jimola Wade, Ronnie Cairnes and Connie Riggins.
It is because of these generous individuals the Santa Train Express continues to be one of the most anticipated and loved events in the city.
