I would urge anyone who is considering voting for Mitt Romney to go online and watch the video describing his time as CEO of a private equity firm that bought up and sold off small plants and factories (go to www.winningourfuture.com ).
This video is a devastating indictment of Romney as a corporate raider, who would swoop in like a vulture to take over small companies and in the ruthless Wall Street manner of a Gordon Gekko, cut benefits, slash paychecks and, ultimately, after stripping the business’s carcass of all its assets, close down the plants, laying off the workforce and drastically hurting the small-town communities that depended on these mills and factories.
In the cases listed, Romney, through what he says is “creative destruction,” fired thousands of workers in several states and reaped hundreds of millions of dollars in profits at the expense of ordinary working folks like you and I. Believe me, I’m all for someone to succeed in business and make a profit, but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it.
Romney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and doesn’t know what hard work really is. Money goes to money, they say, and Romney sure has benefited from his daddy’s fortune. That’s all well and good to be born rich, but apparently with Romney, greed has no bounds.
The economic havoc that this man has wreaked on small-town communities is disgusting and his profiteering off the backs of working people is despicable. What he did to these folks was legal, but it still doesn’t make it right.
In addition to Romney’s economic record of corporate avarice and his refusal to release his tax returns and company records, something else doesn’t sit well with me.
As a veteran, it bothers me that this guy was living in France as a missionary, while others of lesser means served their country in various overseas posts wearing the uniform.
And, when asked why none of his five able-bodied sons were serving in the military while two wars were going on, Romney replied that they were serving the nation by helping him get elected.
