ROCK HILL – The moments immediately following a fatal shooting Sunday in Rock Hill involving three Lancaster men were detailed in a police report released this week.
Rock Hill police officers reported being flagged down by a woman frantically waving her arms outside the Rock Hill Motel early Sunday morning, according to a Rock Hill Police Department incident report. Police responded to the motel about a report of a shooting.
The report, released Tuesday, said officers followed the woman to the second floor of the motel, located at 914 Riverview Road, where they found a man lying face down in a walkway outside a room.
Officers noticed a large amount of blood coming from the victim's head, the report said.
Emergency Medical Services responded, but could not find a pulse on the victim. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, said Rock Hill police Lt. Brad Redfearn.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said the victim's name is David Watts, a 27-year-old man from Gray Court, which is in Laurens County. Gast said Watts' official cause of death is a gunshot wound, but said her office is not releasing any other details about the death.
Police later interviewed the woman who flagged them down, who said she was lying in bed in her room when she heard an extremely loud bang.
She said she hopped out of bed, opened the curtain on her window and saw a man falling to the ground. She noticed a man wearing a dark grey T-shirt get into the passenger side of a light blue Chrysler in the parking lot and speed away, the report said.
The witness remembered hearing an argument in the hallway about an hour before the shooting.
Officers also spoke with a man who knew the victim. He told officers they were in a room with some girls when the victim went outside to get something.
The man said he later called the victim on the phone, asked him where he was and told him to come back to the room. After the man hung up the phone, he heard a gunshot, opened the door and saw the victim on the ground, the report said.
Using descriptions given by the witnesses, police later pulled over a blue car with three men inside traveling south on Anderson Road in Rock Hill.
Two guns were found during a search of the car and one may have been used in the shooting, Redfearn said.
Glen Sergio Brace, 23, Markevious Dimitri Cousar, 19, and Devontae Darryl Wright, 18, all of Lancaster, were later arrested, Redfearn said.
Redfearn said Brace was charged with murder, possession of a pistol by a person prohibited and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, while Wright and Cousar were both charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Wright also had a firearm-related charge.
Police also recovered video footage of the shooting, though Redfearn said that will not be released to the public.
As of Wednesday, Redfearn said investigators were still searching for a motive.
According to the York County Sheriff's Office website, bond was set at $75,000 for Cousar and $100,000 for Wright, though no bond has been set for Brace.
Brace and Wright remained jailed Thursday afternoon at the Moss Justice Center in York, though Cousar was no longer listed in the detention center website.
