A man shopping for boots Thursday night left the store with more than just footwear.
Police responded to a call about an armed robbery at The Shoe Department at University Place on S.C. 9 Bypass.
Two store workers told police that a man came inside the store about 7:30 p.m. and began looking at shoes. He picked up two pairs of Timberland boots, took them to the counter and bought them, the report said.
When the workers opened the register, the man pulled out a pistol, cocked it and demanded money, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.
He made one of the workers duck behind the counter while the other gave him an undetermined amount of money. He then made them go into a back room and told them not to come out, the report said.
They waited for about 30 seconds, came out and called police.
The robber is described as a black man in his early 20s. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and he is 5-foot, 7-inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and is clean shaven, the report said.
No arrests have been made, Capt. Susan Hunter said.
"We're working on it," Hunter said. "It's still an active case. We're following up on some needs we have."
