P-31 splits in League V play

The Lancaster American Legion Post 31 senior team split in a pair of recent League V games.The P-31 seniors defeated Fort Mill at Fort Mill Post 43 on Friday, but dropped an 8-6 home loss to Chester on Monday night in League V play.In the loss to Chester, Ross Maiden took the mound defeat. He worked two innings and allowed five runs, five hits and two walks.Maiden fanned one. Evan Byrd went seven innings and allowed three runs, seven hits and two walks.The southpaw reliever fanned eight.Josh Warfield led the offense with two hits, including a grand slam. He drove in four runs.Nick Ferguson, back with the team after his appearance in the annual North-South All-Star game at Myrtle Beach, had two hits. Khoury Hammond supplied a two-run single. Josh Eubanks had a hit.In the win on Friday night at Fort Mill, Jordan Workman was the winner in 6.1 innings of work He allowed four runs, five hits and three walks. He fanned three. Byrd worked two-thirds of an inning and struck out two.Rico Robinson led the offense with three hits. Josh Eubanks, Matt Schipani, J.R. Tripp and Khoury Hammond had two hits each.Justin Hinson, Josh Warfield and Ross Maiden each had a hit.The game was actually halted early when a Fort Mill Post 43 player was ejected from the game while arguing a call with the umpire.The Post 43 players’ ejection left Fort Mill with only 8 players and no reserves.The Lancaster Post 31 senior team is back in act ion tonight when it visits Chester in League V play.The senior team played a League V game at Fort Mill on Tuesday night, but the game was completed after The News’ deadline for Wednesday’s edition. See Friday’s paper for a complete report on the team’s games.The Post 31 senior team caps a busy week with a Thursday home game with Rock Hill Post 34 at 7 p.m.The Lancaster Post 31 junior team, which defeated Rock Hill 8-7 in extra inning on Friday night at home, hosted Charlotte for a non-League V game on Tuesday night after a Monday night trip to York in League V play.The junior team caps play with a Saturday home doubleheader with Gaffney. Games are at 3 and 5 p.m.
