P-31 seniors split home twin bill with Clover

The Lancaster Post 31 Legion baseball senior team split a League V twin bill with Clover Post 38 on Monday, June 30 at Eggleton Field.

Lancaster fell to Clover, 6-1, but the P-31 seniors rebounded to top Clover, 2-1.

Hank Thompson’s RBI scored Troy Cunningham to lift Lancaster to the one-run win.

Lancaster was coming off a tough finish in the Sandlapper Invitational at Florence over the weekend.

Lancaster dropped a 1-0 loss to Jacksonville, N.C., in its opener on Friday, June 27.

 The game was slated to go seven innings, but was completed in extra innings after the game was scoreless after seven frames. Lancaster veteran right-hander Jordan Brock took the loss.

Chicopee (Mass.) defeated Lancaster 11-6 at Florence’s Legion field on Friday, June 27. Lancaster returned to Florence on Sunday, June 29 when it dropped a 6-5 loss to Duplin, N.C.

Lancaster returned to League V play on Monday, June 30 when it split with Clover.

P-31 athletic officer Scott Cato also announced that Lancaster Post 31 will forfeit its final two League V senior games because it would not have enough players for those games.

Lancaster Post 31 was slated to host Rock Hill on Wednesday, July 2. Lancaster was scheduled to visit Fort Mill on Thursday, July 3.

The Lancaster senior team is slated to play in the upcoming S.C. American Legion state playoffs which open Monday, July 7.

Lancaster qualified for the playoffs since four teams from each league are eligible for the playoffs and League V features four teams this season.

The Lancaster Post 31 junior team has two games this week to complete regular-season play before the state playoffs open.

The Lancaster junior Legion team, which dropped a 9-8 home loss to York Post 66 on Wednesday, June 25, also wraps up regular-season play with two games this week.

The Lancaster juniors hosted Clover Post 38 on Tuesday, July 1 at 7.

The Post 31 juniors  will be at home to play Rock Hill Post 34 on Thursday, July 3 at 7.

The Legion baseball junior playoffs are slated to begin July 7.

The second round begins July 15, with the state tournament slated for Rock Hill where play begins July 20 and continues through July 24.
