The Lancaster Post 31 senior baseball team rebounded from its first loss to down Rock Hill Post 34, 6-1 on Monday, May 27 and stay unbeaten in Legion baseball League V play.

P-31, after a 12-10 road loss to Mint Hill, rebounded to top Rock Hill.

Lancaster right-handers Jordan Brock and Tripp Rollings combined on a four-hitter to key the Post 31  win.

“Our pitching was outstanding, as it has been for the most part this season,” Lancaster coach Marc Rape said. “Jordan dominated on the mound and Tripp came in and did another outstanding job.”

Brock, 2-0, went six frames for the win, yielding two hits and three walks. He struck out six. Rollings, who has a save on the season, worked the final three frames.

The veteran right-hander out of Andrew Jackson High School whiffed six and gave up two hits and a walk.

“We played good defense behind them with one error, so I was pleased with that area,” Rape said. “Our pitching and defense have been fine this season, but I feel we can improve at the plate. I think we will come around, but our hitting needs to pick up.”

Drew Hopper boosted the Lancaster offense, clouting a two-run home run.

Chandler Neal supplied a double, single, drove in two runs and scored a run. Evan Flynn also had a pair of hits for the winners, who improved to 3-1, 3-0 in league play.

Jonah Crenshaw chipped in a hit, two walks and scored three runs. Rollings aided the cause with a sacrifice fly RBI and Dustin Eddins also had a RBI.

On Saturday, May 25, P-31 dropped a 12-10 non-league road loss to Mint Hill.

Lancaster held a 10-6 lead in the eighth, but Mint Hill rallied to gain the two-run win. A walk-off two-run home run in the ninth sealed the comeback win for Mint Hill.

Drew Hopper, who worked the final three frames, took the loss. Chandler Neal worked the first six frames. Neal also had two hits in the loss.

Lancaster will hit the road today for a twin bill with Clover Post 38. The first game of the two seven-inning contests begins at 6 p.m.

Junior team falls

The P-31 junior baseball team dropped a 15-2 home loss to Mint Hill on Monday, May 27 at Eggleton Field.

Holden Payne, in 3.1 innings, fanned one and allowed five hits. Trevor Cauthen, in 2.2 innings, gave up five hits. Brian Hegler, who went two-thirds of an inning, whiffed two.

Wesley Knight, Brady Horton and Cauthen each had a hit. Jamie Mackey and Cameron Payne each tallied a run.

The juniors dropped both ends of a twin bill at Mint Hill on Saturday, May 25. Mint Hill took a 14-6 win in the opener.

Troy Cunningham had a hit and drove in two runs. Austin Caskey and Donte Blakeney each had a double and scored a run. Druw Rollings, Gage Hinson, Holden Payne and Brooks Viola each tallied a run.

In the nightcap, Lancaster held a 5-1 lead, but Mint Hill rallied late to take the 6-5 win.

Donte Blakeney had a double and a single. Brooks Viola had a hit, sacrifice bunt and tallied a run. Trevor Cauthen and Cameron Payne each had a hit. Wesley Knight, Byron Hegler, Austin Caskey and Logan Lucas each scored a run.

The P-31 juniors hosted Rock Hill on Tuesday night. The juniors host Clover on Thursday at 7 p.m.
