One Stop Shop Hop set for Saturday

If you love to sew, Saturday’s One Stop Shop Hop is for you.

Now in its fourth year, the shop hop is co-sponsored by the Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Heath Springs and the Magic Needle Quilt Guild of Lancaster.

The craft show offers almost everything needed to create your own handmade heirlooms under one roof.

The One Stop Shop Hop was created by local sewing enthusiasts Janet Nelson and Pat Ussery in an effort to make quilting and sewing idea and materials easier to find. By providing this one-day event each year, the products come to you.

Twenty-four vendors, eager to promote their goods, will fill the multipurpose  room of the Bradley Arts and Sciences Building on the University of South Carolina at Lancaster campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Shop Hop will be a wonderful place to see a variety of items and to get a feel for what each vendor carries in their shops as well,” said Lysbeth Hart, Shop Hop planning committee member.

Hart, a newcomer to Lancaster, joined both quilt guilds after attending the first One Stop Shop Hop.

Having moved here from California, at the time she had met few people.

That all changed after her visit to the shop hop.

She said the event provided her with an outlet to make new friends, with  whom she shared a common sewing thread with.

“Shortly after I moved here, I read about the shop hop in the newspaper,” Hart said.

“Since I love to sew, I was very excited to have an opportunity to check out what was available here. Not only did I find what I needed, I also met others who enjoyed sewing.”

The shop hop offers something for everyone, from beginners to the more experienced needleworkers.

The event has grown in popularity  since 2006, with more 500 people from several states attending last year’s event.

It was originally held inside the Carole Ray Dowling Health Services Center at USCL, but the overwhelming response necessitated a move to a bigger venue.

Quilter’s of South Carolina features an exhibition at the shop hop each year.  This year they will be bringing their “Give Me Your Heart” traveling exhibition, which focuses on the awareness of heart health and heart disease.

A giant gift basket containing products donated by vendors (valued at more than $200) will be raffled at the shop hop.

Vendors will also offer discount certificates from their stores. Homemade baked items will also be available.
