Oct. 29 deadline for endorsement letters

-A A +A
By The Staff

In less than two weeks, voters across the nation will elect a new president. Locally, we will have some new faces in several elected positions – the S.C. Senate District 16, the S.C. House 45 and the City Council District 1 seats.

Several incumbents have opposition for their seats. They include County Council District 3, School Board districts 4 and 6, and City Council districts 1, 3 and 4.

Records are being set for early voting and absentee ballot requests – both nationally and locally. Local election officials report a steady stream of voters casting their votes on the row of machines lining the hallway of the county administration building.

In the last few weeks, you have read several letters and columns from readers endorsing their candidates. And we want to continue offering that opportunity. But the deadline is nearing. The last day we will publish endorsement letters and columns is Oct. 31. We will not print endorsement letters and columns in the Nov. 2 edition.

We encourage you to write letters of support for your candidates. And we will do our best to get them published before the Nov. 4 general election. The deadline to submit the endorsement letters is 5 p.m. Oct. 29.

Those facing opposition in the local races are:

Lancaster City Council

- District 1, Racarda Blackmon Sr. vs. Kenneth B. Hood

- District 3, Linda Blackmon-Brace vs. Audrey Curry

- District 4, Tamara “Missy” Green vs. William “Bill” Sumner

Lancaster County School Board

- District 4, Peter N. Barry vs. AnThony E. Pelham

- District 6, Margaret Gamble vs. Robert Pelot

Lancaster County Council

- District 3, D.W. “Cotton” Cole vs. Wesley Grier

S.C. House District 45

- Fred Thomas vs. Deborah Long

S.C. Senate District 16

- Mandy Powers Norrell vs. Mick Mulvaney

Letters must have name, address and telephone number for verification. We will publish just the name and town the writer lives in. We will not print anonymous letters.

You have several options to submit the letters. You can mail them to The Lancaster News, P.O. Box 640, Lancaster, S.C. 29721; bring them by the office at 701 N. White St.; fax to (803) 285-5079 or e-mail them to brutledge@thelancasternews.com or news@thelancasternews.com.

We look forward to to hearing from you. And your candidate will appreciate your support.
