The North and South 7-8 soccer all-stars met Thursday, Dec. 5 to decide the 2013 Lancaster County Parks and Recreation pee wee all-star soccer champion.

The South stars opened play in the best-of-three tournament with a 4-2 win over the North at the Buford Recreation Complex field on Monday, Dec. 2.

In the second match at the Melvin E. Steele Complex in Lancaster on Tuesday, Dec. 3, the North stars rebounded for a 2-0 win to force the decisive third match on Thursday.

In the first match, Sergio Pavon tallied to give the South a 1-0 lead.

The South’s Grayson Kirk later tallied off a penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.

North’s Braxton Cordova answered with a goal from around midfield to make it 2-1 at the half.

The South’s Kirk scored again in the third quarter for a 3-1 lead.

Cordova netted another goal, which the goalie stopped, but stepped across the goal to make it 3-2.

Kirk secured his “hat trick” with his third goal for the 4-2 win.

“It was a great team effort and everyone played together and passed the ball real well,” South coach Doug Deese said.

In the second playoff match, the contest was tight.

The match was a scoreless tie starting the third period.

The North’s Braxton Cordova scored when the South threw a corner kick into the goalie 1-0.

The North stars scored again off a deflected shot for the 2-0 win.

The South stars were unable to answer and the final was 2-0.

South goalie Landon Williams had several stops, and lots of help from his defense.

In other LCPRC youth soccer action, three all-stars team will venture to Bluffton this weekend to play in the state tournament.
