The Northern Guilford Nighthawks, led by former Lancaster High School head football coach Johnny Roscoe, will shoot for their third straight state football championship this weekend.

The Nighthawks, 14-0, face 13-1 Charlotte Catholic for the Class 3-AA state championship at Wake Forest University’s Groves Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

North Carolina-bound tailback T.J. Logan led his team to its third straight N.C. 3AA East region championship last Friday night when the Nighthawks topped Wilson Hunt 44-0.

Northern Guilford has three straight playoff shutouts and seeks its third straight state title.

Catholic, under coach Jim Oddo, is in the finals for the first time since 2007.

Northern Guilford defeated Crest High of Shelby for the 2011 and 2010 state titles.

In four previous playoff games, Northern Guilford has defeated its foes by a combined 205-14.

Roscoe, a Hartsville native, coached at Lancaster High School from 1985 to 2005 and guided the Bruins to state championship game appearances in 1989 and 1990.

Roscoe led his prep alma mater, Hartsville High School, to the Class AAAA Division II state crown in 1981.
