Moore meet-and-greet Aug. 19

Heath Springs Mayoral Candidate E.L. Moore will hold a meet-and-greet at noon Aug. 19 at Heath Springs Town Hall. Free school supplies will be given away, along with free shaved ice, popcorn and drinks.

CCA offers help with energy bills

The Lancaster County Office of Carolina Community Actions Inc. is taking applications to help low-income families with home energy bills and other programs and services. Family households must be income-eligible and provide supporting documents to qualify.

Senior rental help available

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging administers an emergency rental assistance program for seniors funded through the S.C. Finance and Development Authority. The program provides short-term help to low-income seniors ages 60 and older. It provides money for rent, which will be sent to the property owner or landlord. Reading Pals seeks volunteers

United Way of Lancaster County Education Initiative, in collaboration with the Lancaster County School District, is looking for volunteers to visit Brooklyn Springs Elementary School at least one hour every week to help children acquire better reading skills and read on grade level. 

Those interested must complete a school volunteer application at www.lancastercsd.com and attend orientation for volunteer tutoring with United Way of Lancaster County. For details, call (803) 283-8923.
