Staff Reports
The Martin Luther King Jr. Social Action Committee Inc. (MLK-SAC), Food Lion LLC and Citadel of Hope Christian Fellowship will present the ninth annual MLK Memorial Peace Conference at 2 p.m. April 4 at the Fairway Room at the Springs Golf Course, 1821 Springs Club Road.
The celebration will mark the 44th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s theme is “Remaining Hopeful through the Storm.”
There will be interactive discussions on domestic violence, violence in our communities and financial peace.
The featured speaker will be Dr. George B. Jackson, civil rights activist, founder and chairman of MLK-SAC. Special music will be provided by local choirs.
The conference’s purpose is to bring attention to the need for open dialogue on the process of peace, give voice to those who are opposed to war and to discuss tactical ways to confront domestic violence – what King advocated during his life.
The MLK-SAC Inc., established in 1993 in Rock Hill, maintains the goal of the non-violent elimination of injustice, discrimination, poverty and racism. Since its earliest efforts in the late 1980s, MLK-SAC has focused on grassroots efforts to build upon King’s beloved community paradigm, including Lancaster residents.
