Miller team prevails in Family Promise tourney

The team of Milford Miller took top honors in the annual Family Promise of Lancaster County captain’s choice golf tournament Saturday afternoon at the Lancaster Golf Club.

Miller’s team, which included Bryan Gilliard, Jeremy Gilliard and Eddie Wray, shot a 56 with computed to a 48.6 with a 7.4 adjustment.

The second-place team was led by Kenny Pruitt, who teamed with Ken Fowler, Rich Morton and Jacob Fowler who posted a 55 which computed to a 49 with the 6.0 adjustment.

The third-place team was led by Russell Dipple and his team included Gerald Booher, Joseph Threatt and Tyler Carter. The third-place team had a 60 which computed to a 51 with the nine adjustment.

The event featured 18 teams, up from 16 last year.

“All who played had a good time,” said Mike Montgomery, executive director of Lancaster County Family Promise. “We had a good time for a great cause. We appreciate the support from the community, golfers and sponsors. This community steps up for Family Promise.”

The long driver winners were  Russ Spiney (seniors) Kathy Sullivan (ladies) and men’s Jacob Fowler.

The close-up winners for a chance to win $100,000 were Richard Harris (No. 4), Eddie Wray (No. 7), Corey Moore (No. 13) and Dan Edwards (No. 15).

Montgomery saluted Calvin Miller, Ron Burke and Larry Fowler for their work with the tournament.

“They’re dedicated to this tournament and it makes a difference among others each year,” he said.
