New Hope Missionary Baptist Church is sponsoring its first-ever Men’s Empowerment Conference on Saturday.

The free conference, held at the Fairway Room of the Lancaster Golf Club, begins with registration from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and a continental breakfast to follow.

The day will feature sessions on health, finances, employment, self discipline and veterans benefits.

Artis Bufford, pastor at Armenia Baptist Church in Chester, will give the keynote address. His speech will focus on the theme, “Empowering Men Today to Make a Difference Tomorrow.”

Organizer Joe King said the conference should run until about 2:30 p.m..

Lunch will be provided for all participants.

King said the event had been in the works for about a year.

He expects between 350 and 400 people to attend.

“The goal is to get the guys some educational material to help them become better men in the home and in the community,” King said. “We’re building a good pyramid here.”
