Over the course of this past weekend at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., the track drew a host of drivers from across the United States. Two Lancaster Super Speedway drivers captured wins in the King of the Carolinas event.
Timbo Mangum won the Renegade Division and Ben Watkins prevailed in the Limited Late Model Division.
In the Renegade Division, Mangum dominated the whole race and never yielded the lead.
In the Limited Late Model main event, Ben Watkins earned the checkers.
During the opening laps, Watkins battled Johnny Pursley for the lead.
Watkins and Jay Sessoms made contact in turns three and four, sending Watkins around and to the rear of the field.
Watkins, at that point, stole the show and displayed his pure talent behind the wheel of a race car.
Once the race restarted, Watkins began to work his way to the front in a fast-pace, picking off drivers left and right.
Once Watkins took second, he set his sights on Pursley and exiting turn 4 would make his move and began to pull away for the win.
Two other drivers who race at Lancaster won in their respected divisions. Brent Hodges took the checkers in the Street Stock main event and Shorty Lacey, driving for Michael Baucom, took the win in the Hornets/Extreme 4/FWD main event with a last-lap pass for the win.
