A Lancaster man’s car was shot at several times Tuesday night after an argument on Hazel Street.
Lancaster police responded to the area about 8:30 p.m. after receiving calls from residents of Dunlap Street and Willow Lake Road about gunshots, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.
The victim said he was about to leave Hazel Street when a man approached and punched him, the report said.
The victim told police he was going to fight back but got in his 1998 Chevrolet Lumina and drove off after seeing a large crowd approaching, the report said.
As the victim drove around the Hazel Street circle one last time, a second man fired multiple gunshots at his car, striking the passenger side door and shattering both rear door windows, the report said.
The victim drove to the Municipal Justice Center on Arch Street, where an officer saw him holding a bloody shirt and wearing a tank top covered in blood.
The victim, who was not struck by a bullet, denied medical attention and was not taken to the hospital, the report said.
He told police he knows the person who first approached him as well as the person who fired the gunshots.
Police Chief Hugh White said Thursday that investigators are still trying to determine what triggered the argument.
Police have a suspect, but are not releasing that person’s name, White said.
“We haven’t been able to develop a connection with the fight,” he said. “It could be a family member taking up for a family member.”
