Long wins big in York County

Republican Deborah Long took more than two-thirds of the York County vote in the S.C. House District 45 race against Democratic challenger Fred Thomas.

Long is the first woman from Lancaster County to be elected to the House District 45 seat, which covers territory from the city of Lancaster to Indian Land and the northern portion of York County, including Fort Mill. She had 11,051 votes overall between York and Lancaster counties, or almost 57 percent of the vote. Thomas, a Lancaster County councilman, had 8,422 votes, or 43 percent.

The Lancaster News was unable to get York County totals Tuesday night before the paper went to press at midnight.

In York County, Long had almost 70 percent of the vote, or 3,877. Thomas had 30 percent, or 1,664 votes.

Long, an Indian Land resident and optometrist, owns Fort Mill Vision Center in York County.
