Masked robber flees from scene

Police officers swarmed the area around Lancaster’s Applebee’s restaurant early Monday morning, minutes after a man robbed an employee at gunpoint.

In a press release sent hours after the incident, Lancaster Police Department Capt. Scott Grant said the armed robbery happened about 1:40 a.m. Monday inside the restaurant, located at 1268 S.C. 9 Bypass West.

The manager told police he was alone and closing up the restaurant when he was approached by a lone, masked gunman.

The man forced the manager into a rear office area where he demanded the manager give him all of the restaurant’s available cash, Grant said.

The gunman took an undetermined amount of money and left the building going in an unknown direction.

Several officers and a canine unit responded within minutes and searched the area, though they did not find the gunman.

“At this time we are still conducting a very active investigation,” Grant said.

A description of the robber was not available Monday morning.
