A Lancaster County man died Friday in a three-vehicle accident in Chesterfield County.

The wreck happened at 5:45 p.m. on S.C. 9, about six miles west of Pageland, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Details released by the Highway Patrol before The Lancaster News' Saturday afternoon deadline were sketchy.

The patrol would not release the name of the man who died, but it said he was a Lancaster County resident. He was driving a 2007 Ford Focus that was also occupied by Steven Vincent, 49, of Lancaster.

Both occupants were entrapped in the car, and the driver was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin didn't know if Vincent was restrained. He is in fair condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is trying to determine what happened, Gaskin said.

A loaded 2008 International tractor trailer was involved in the wreck. Kent Hosly, 58, of Apoka, Fla., was the driver.

Hosly had on a seat belt and was not injured, Gaskin said.

There was also a third vehicle involved.

However, Gaskin didn't have any details about it or its passengers on Saturday.
