In the Wednesday paper, the FWD/UCAR race included a few highlights. Following is a few more details on the race last Saturday night.
In the FWD/UCAR main, the front row had Frank Roof and making his first trip to Lancaster Motor Speedway this season was David “Pork Chop” Motes.
When the green flag fell, it was Roof, Motes, Joseph Laney and Mel Privette battling for the lead entering turn one.
Exiting turn two, it was Roof with a big lead over Motes, Laney and Privette.
Coming out of turn four on the first lap, it was Roof with the lead, but the battle was on for second between Motes, Laney, Privette, Adam Leaird and Scotty Steen.
Motes and Laney had their own duel for second, while Steen and Leaird had their own duel for fourth.
Motes and Laney raced numerous laps side by side, neither gaining a inch for second.
As both of these great drivers dueled, Privette was working his way through the field.
Midway through, Privette joined in the battle and coming down the back straightaway gave Laney a little bit of a Daytona-style bump drafting and pushed Laney by Motes for second and third.
Privette then overtook second from Laney and set his sights on Roof, who had a commanding lead over the field.
A late-race caution set up a duel between Roof and Privette, but Roof proved to be too tough and won.
Top 5: Roof, Privette, Motes, 12-starting David Laney worked his way up to fourth, fifth Joseph Laney.
