KERSHAW – The women’s soccer pipeline from Andrew Jackson High School to Limestone College added a strong link Wednesday morning, Feb. 5.
AJ Lady Volunteers’ senior soccer standout Taylor Blackmon will join the Saints after signing with the Gaffney college in the AJ media center.
Blackmon will join former AJ soccer ace Leah Kennington, a LC sophomore, with the Blue and Gold.
“I enjoyed playing with Leah when she was at Andrew Jackson and I’m excited about being a teammate with her again,” Blackmon said.
Blackmon said her visit to the NCAA Div. II Conference Carolinas school went well.
“I liked it a lot,” she said. “The people there were very welcoming and I felt real comfortable at Limestone on my visit.
“I was impressed with the way the soccer team played and I liked the coaches,” she said.
Blackmon, a four-year member of the Lady Vols’ soccer team, has produced a stellar career at AJ.
She earned the team’s Coaches Award last spring when she scored 23 goals.
In her AJ career, Blackmon has tallied 41 goals for the Lady Vols.
She has earned all-region soccer honors the last two seasons.
Blackmon is also a star in class, with a 4.544 grade point average with a No. 10 ranking in the AJ senior class. She is also a member of the AJ chapter of the Beta Club and National Honor Society. Last spring, she was selected as a Junior Marshall as one of the top ranking juniors in the AJ Class of 2014.
“Limestone has a good soccer program and they are getting an outstanding player,” AJ girls soccer coach Lee Hanna said. “Taylor puts everything out there and pushes others to do their best.
“She’s a natural leader out there and she’s going to give it her best,” Hanna said.
