Bruins down Central 57-24

By The Staff

The Lancaster High School wrestling team rebounded with a solid win over Class AA foe Central of Pageland at the Eagles’ gym on Thursday.

The Bruins, who improved to 3-6, rolled to a 57-24 win. LHS’s 33-point win avenged a  41-39 home loss to Central last month.

The Bruins posted six pins en route to the win.

Gabe Campo, Justin Harper, Joe Craig, Donald Heath, Dawan Thompson and Clay Rollings each had a pin for LHS.

Cody Pate had a decision, while Jeff Strickland, Quanterious Degraffenreid and Marshawn Rhoney each prevailed on forfeits.

“I was real proud of our overall team effort on Thursday night,” LHS coach Terry Marshall said. “This was a match we lost back in December in a close decision, but we came back and won in convincing fashion.

“I think that shows how much we have improved since early in the season,” Marshall said. “We’ve settled our lineup and our younger wrestlers have come on and made a great deal of progress. The work of coach Jeff Foo has really helped our guys in making progress and becoming a better team with their wrestling fundamentals and moves. I would also like to thank the work of our scorekeeper Michelle Allen who has been a big help in keeping our stats and handling our match results.”

Lancaster hosts a three-way meet on Monday when the Bruins battle Fairfield Central of Winnsboro and Region IV-AAAA foe Rock Hill.

The match was originally slated to be a dual contest with the FC Griffins, but Rock Hill was added after the match was postponed due to the winter storm last Tuesday.

The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the LHS gym.

The Bruins cap regular-season action with a region match at Ridge View on Thursday.

The Region IV-AAAA tournament is Saturday at Rock Hill High School.
