The Lancaster High girls tennis team opened region play with a 7-0 win over South Pointe on Tuesday night.The Lady Bruins started strong and didn’t drop a set while improving to 5-1 on the season. Karen Jaggers-Jessica Parker (S) 6-0, 6-3LHS golfers winThe Lancaster High School girls golf team won its first-ever match, defeating Class A foe McBee at the Lady Panthers’ home course, Sandy Point Golf Club, on Wednesday.The LHS shot a 190 to McBee’s 209.Haley Heath and Alexandria McCain each shot a 42 over nine holes to pace the Lady Bruins in their 19-stroke win.Kendall Boone carded a 51 and Madison Morgan had a 55 for the Lady Bruins. Hannah McCain notched a 59.“It was a good start for us in building our program,” LHS coach Joe McCain said.LHS launches region play Tuesday, facing South Pointe at Pinetuck in Rock Hill.LHS cross country meetsOn Wednesday, the Lancaster High School cross country team fell to Blythewood, 26-33. Wylie Penegar won with a 15:12 and Drew Burn followed with a 16:06. Graham Taylor (7, 17:25), Dylan Sinclair (11, 17:53) and Jordan Caroway (13, 18:16) rounded out the LHS effort.Blythewood won the girls’ meet, 20-35. Brooke Penegar topped the LHS effort in third, 21:06, with Ashley Null in fifth, 21:11. Courtney Cauthen (11, 22:06), Kelsey Carter (14, 23:37) and Caitlin Sitte (17, 24:43) followed.The LHS cross country team dropped a meet to region foe Ridge View.In the boys meet, Wylie Penegar was the top finisher for LHS in 15:02, while Drew Burn ran a 16:03. Other LHS top finishers: Graham Taylor, 17:19; Jordan Caroway, 17:43; and Dylan Sinclair, 18:01.In the girls’ meet, Brooke Penegar was the top Lady Bruins’ finisher in 22:02. Other LHS finishers: Courtney Cauthen, 22:17; Kelsey Carter, 22:38; Ashley Null, 23:17; and Caitlin Sitte, 24:27.“I was especially proud of my runners, as each improved their times from our first home meet by at least a minute,” said Lancaster coach Josh Pauling. “That is incredible improvement in the short span of 14 days.“My goal for the year has been for them to set and meet personal goals, and to see them all successfully do so this past week was very rewarding,” he said.
