The Lancaster High School swim team, led by senior Jory Pettit, is set for the Class AAAA state meet Saturday at the University of South Carolina Natatorium at 11 a.m.
Pettit, who qualified for the state meet in the 50-meter freestyle and 100 freestyle, will be defending his state title in the 50-meter free. He won the silver in the 100 freestyle last fall.
Pettit prevailed in the 50-meter free last year with a 21.47 and was second in the 100 free in 47.57.
Pettit is one of a host of LHS swimmers in the state meet.
Lauren Spencer will swim in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Hannah Jacobs is set for the 100 butterfly.
Pettit will also swim in the boys 200 freestyle relay along with Connor Poston,Kenneth Martin and Adam Augeson.
Pettit is also slated to compete in the 400 boys freestyle relay with Kenneth Martin, Poston and Augeson.
In the Region III-AAAA meet last week in Rock Hill, the LHS girls placed third, while the Bruins were fourth. LHS, as a team, took third overall.
LHS tennis wins
The LHS Lady Bruins tennis team notched another region victory Wednesday night in Lancaster in a 4-2 win over Northwestern.
LHS singles spots 1-4 cruised in their respective matches and would be all the Lady Bruins needed to seal the win.
Sara Hicks led the way with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Lyndsey Hegler remained unbeaten this season with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Other Lancaster winners on the night were Carley Adams at No. 3 singles and Ivy Plaza at No. 4 singles.
The Lady Bruins’ No. 2 doubles team of Kadedra Brown and Leanne Jewell lost a heartbreaker in a third-set tiebreaker by a score of 10-7.
The win pushes the Lady Bruins to 8-2 on the year with a 7-2 region record.

The Buford High School volleyball team will host its annual Best in the Nest tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Jackets, 7-8-3, evened its region volleyball mark with a 3-0 win over Cheraw – 25-21, 25-21 and 25-13 on Tuesday.
“We had a good, solid team effort,” BHS coach Robbie Loudermilk said.
The tournament is slated to begin at 8 a.m., with pool play best-of-three matches.
The field includes Buford, Lancaster, Indian Land, Central, North Central, South Pointe and Hartsville.
AJ Lady Vols win
The Andrew Jackson Lady Vols improved their region mark to 6-0 with a 3-0 victory over Central of Pageland on Tuesday. The Lady Vols won, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-15
AJ is 12-8 overall, 7-2 excluding tourney play with its only two losses to North Central.
“We continue to work on our defensive play and the transition to attack,” AJ coach John Verdugo said. “Our focus is to aggressively attack on every play and to minimize mental mistakes.”
