The Lancaster High girls soccer team, 7-0, stayed unbeaten on the season with a 6-0 win over Class AAAA foe Sumter at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.
Lauren White and Frances Whitesides each tallied two goals for the Lady Bruins.
Flo Tarque and Sedona Smith each tallied a goal. Ashley Cauthen posted two assists.
Whitesides, Smith and Mary Beth White each had an assist.
Effie Spears posted the shutout.
In the boys match, Sumter snapped a 1-all tie with two second half in a 3-1 win over the Bruins. Jaden Driggers scored the lone LHS goal in the match.
The Bruins visit county foe Andrew Jackson tonight.
LHS downs NWHS
The Lancaster Lady Bruins opened Region IV-AA play with a landmark soccer win Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.
The LHS girls posted their first-ever win over Northwestern, taking a 2-1 win over the Lady Trojans.
NWHS led 1-0, but the Lady Bruins answered as Lauren White scored off a Frances Whitesides assist to tie the match.
Sedona Smith, off an assist from Ashley Cauthen, provided Lancaster the decisive goal and the LHS defense protected the lead for the win.
“We stepped up in the second half with our defense and our seniors gave us a spark,” LHS coach Bo Sylvia said.
LHS keeper Effie Spears held NWHS scoreless in the second half.
Sylvia also saluted the ace play of Flo Tarque, Morgan Farrar, Mallory Blackmon and Brooke Christensen in the LHS defensive effort.
Eddins keys AJ Vols
Andrew Jackson launched Region IV-AA baseball play with a 12-0 blanking of Indian Land in five innings at the Warriors’ field on Tuesday night.
AJ hurler Dustin Eddins, who had a no-hitter for four frames, tossed a one-hitter and fanned seven batters. Eddins backed his cause with a hit and scored a run.
Sidney Watson led the AJ attack with two hits and drove in a pair of runs. D.J. McIlwain had two hits and a RBI.
Tripp Rollings belted a solo home run, his third in three games.
Garrett Coates drilled a hit and drove in three runs. Eric Broughton and Corley Faulkenberry each had a hit and drove in a run.
Brad Wentz had the Warriors’ lone hit.
AJ girls roll on
The Andrew Jackson softball team improved to 9-1 on the season with a 7-0 road win over Indian Land on Tuesday night.
AJ hurler Lauren Rowell was the winner, allowing seven hits and two walks. She fanned seven.
Kayla Price took the loss, scattering 12 hits and two walks. She whiffed two.
Hannah Cobb led the AJ offense with four hits and three RBIs.
Kori Ballard had three hits, including a homer and drove in three runs.
Haley Faulkenberry had a hit, sacrifice and a RBI. Summer Truesdale, T.G. McCowan, Angela Sims and Jamee Blackmon each had a hit.
Claire McManus and Ashley Williams each had a sacrifice.
IL was led by Alli Yarborough’s three hits. Liz Myers, Ally Whoy, Katie Jowers and Kayla Price each had a hit for the Lady Warriors.
Lady Bruins belt NW
The Lancaster Lady Bruins launched region play, rolling to a 10-3 home win over Northwestern on Tuesday night.
Erin Walker, 1-2, hurled the win, scattering eight hits and two walks. She fanned nine.
Walker aided her cause with two hits, including a double, two runs and two RBIs.
Kaela Robinson led the Lady Bruins with two doubles, a single and scored two runs.
Porter Sistare drilled two hits, scored twice and walked. Elizabeth Gaston generated a double and a single. Morgan Cope had two hits, scored a run and had a walk.
T’Aria Ingram drilled two hits, including a triple, with a RBI and scored a run. Pagan Glenn had a hit, walk and scored twice.
Claire Brown supplied a hit, RBI and a sacrifice bunt. Katy Ghent added a RBI.
“I was real proud of the girls,” LHS coach Kim Perry said. “This was a much-needed win and we did a good job of hitting.”
The LHS girls visit Buford tonight.
Bruins host Clover
The Lancaster Bruins’ baseball team will look to rebound tonight when they face Region III-AAAA foe Clover High at Doomsday Corner.
A highlight of tonight will be LHS baseball manager Scotty Bryant playing the national anthem on his trumpet.
The Bruins are 1-1 in region play after a 4-3, eight-inning road loss to Northwestern on Tuesday night.
C.D. Pelham, who worked 2.2 innings, took the loss, allowing three hits and a walk. He fanned two.
Northwestern scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth to take the win.
LHS starter Jordan Brock worked five innings and allowed three hits, a walk and three runs. He fanned two.
Brock was struck on the glove hand by a hard line drive, but worked into the sixth inning.
Jonah Crenshaw led the LHS offense with three hits, a double and two singles.
Michael Cooper and T.J. Cauthen each had two hits.
Khory Phillips, Grayson Snipes and Brock each had a RBI-hit.
Lancaster dropped an 8-0 loss to Dutch Fork on Monday.
Doopy Cloud, in three innings, took the loss. Michael Cooper had the lone LHS hit, an infield single.
Troy Lancaster, the son of former Lancaster High athlete Kenny Lancaster, keyed the DFHS attack with a hit and three RBIs.
AJ blanks B-L booters
The Andrew Jackson boys soccer team won a tough defensive battle with Batesburg-Leesville on Monday when the Vols took a 1-0 win.
McKenzie Denkins, with an assist from Zachary Arioli, notched the lone tally.
Luke Kennington was very effective in goal in the first half and played well in the field the second half.
Daniel Stover was the Vols’ keeper in the second half.
Josh Croxton, Brandon Neal, Matthew Woods and Trevor Hammond played well for the stingy AJ defense.
The Vols host the Lancaster Bruins at 7 tonight, with the girls match played before the boys’ match.
LHS golfers sweep
The Lancaster High golfers swept a three-way match with Buford and Cheraw on Tuesday.
The Bruins shot a 166 followed by BHS’s 183 and Cheraw with a 197.
Dalton Bradley paced the LHS golfers, earning medalist honors with a 37.
Garrett Crenshaw led the Jackets with a 43.
Justin Lewis paced Cheraw with a 42.
Other LHS scores: Michael Williams 41, Evan Faile 43 and David Jacobs 46. Mark Lathan had a 47 and Scottie Walker posted a 54.
Other BHS scores: Jake Griffin 50, Matt Crenshaw 50, Griggs Griffin 52, Hunter Cowan 54 and Cannon Catoe 54.
LHS faced Clover Thursday at Lancaster Golf Club and Buford traveled to Stonebridge CC to face Weddington/Cuthbertson.
LHS lost to Fort Mill, 159-179 last Thursday when Nick Eberhardt and Cory Caudle shared medallist honors with a 39 each.
Eagles top Jackets
Central defeated Buford in Region IV-AA baseball play, taking a 5-2 win over the host Jackets on Tuesday.
Cody Gordon, who worked four innings, allowed four runs – three earned, three hits and four walks. He struck out five.
Zach Wright hurled two frames and allowed two walks and a run. He fanned two. Evan “Buck Shot” Flynn worked an inning and yielded a hit with two strikeouts.
Jay Chambers led the BHS attack with two hits, a stolen base and scored a run.
Austin Pate had two hits. Kholby Pate had a hit and drove in a run.
Gordon supplied a hit and scored a run. Kendrick Trapps added a RBI.
The Jackets visit region foe Andrew Jackson tonight.
