BHS downs Cheraw in region play

The surging Buford Yellow Jackets kept pace in Region IV-AA baseball play with a 6-3 road win over Cheraw on Friday night.
A four-run sixth-inning rally lifted BHS, 8-9, 6-3, to the decisive runs in the three-run win.
Kendrick Trapps, who had a single and a double, scored two runs and drove in a run, drew a bases-loaded walk to force home a run and aid the rally. Evan “Buck Shot” Flynn had a RBI-hit and Scotti Moser drilled a two-run single.
Flynn had two hits and drove in two runs, while Tripp Wright chipped in two hits. Austin Pate produced a single and a double.
Moser had a hit and two RBIs. Kendall Knight rapped a hit and drove in a run.
Garrett Johnson scored two runs. Josh Mullens and Matt Bayne each tallied a run.
Kendall Knight, who worked five innings, was the winner, yielding three runs, four hits and five walks.
Kholby Pate hurled two scoreless innings for the save, fanning three and giving up two walks.
Buford hosts Indian Land on Friday at 6 p.m.
Eagles edge Vols, 5-4
Andrew Jackson fell to Central, dropping a 5-4 Region IV-AA loss to the host Eagles on Friday night in Pageland.
Drake Plyler’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Eagles to the one-run win.
Chandler Gardner, who worked an inning, took the loss, allowing two runs, three hits and walk.
Chandler Neal hurled six frames, whiffing eight and yielding four hits and three walks.
Dustin Eddins led the AJ offense with two singles and scored a run.
Bobby Delly laced a triple and tallied twice. Garrett Coates had a hit and drove in a run. Tripp Rollings added a hit for AJ, 10-10, 6-2.
The Vols host Cheraw in a key region baseball clash on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Lady Vols prevail
Top-rated Andrew Jackson stayed unbeaten in Region IV-AA softball play with an 18-5 win over Central of Pageland on Friday night.
The Lady Vols unloaded for 18 hits in the 13-run win.
Haley Faulkenberry led AJ with four hits, including two doubles, a triple and a hit, to go with six RBIs.
Kori Ballard had three hits, including a solo home run, double and a single, to go with a RBI for the Lady Volunteers.
T.G. McCowan had two hits and drove in two runs.
Jamee Blackmon drilled two hits and drove in two runs. Savannah McKittrick was 1-1 with two RBIs.
Ashley Williams supplied a hit, sacrifice and drove in two runs.
Summer Truesdale had a hit, RBI and a sacrifice. Angela Sims supplied a hit and drove home a run.
Claire McManus had a hit, walk and a sacrifice. Halle Thompson supplied a hit.
Winning pitcher Hannah Cobb, who worked five frames, was the winner, yielding six hits and fanning four. Cobb drilled a hit to aid the AJ offense.
Bufoed hurler Lauren Rowell worked two scoreless innings and fanned three.
AJ hosts Cheraw in region play Tuesday at 7. The Lady Vols will be at home Thursday to battle Buford.
Buford kept its hopes alive for a Region IV-AA softball title with a 13-1 road win over Cheraw in five innings on Friday night.
Carley Bailey hurled a one-hitter and she fanned six and walked one.
Erica Blackmon led the Lady Jackets with four hits. Kelsi Moser also had four hits, including two doubles.
Bailey aided the Buford attack with three doubles. Hannah Knight had three hits and Carson Mehaffey added two hits. Daphne Honeycutt and Ashley Lloyd each added a hit.
The Lady Jackets visit Andrew Jackson on Thursday.

On Thursday night, Andrew Jackson hosted the Cheraw Braves for a Region IV-AA soccer match.
Throughout the match, the AJ booters had numerous shots at goal
and several near misses.
Finally with only eight minutes left to play, senior Denton
Clements, a recent USCL men’s soccer signee, ended the frustration for AJ with an unassisted goal.
Two and a half minutes later, Jon Ussery posted another unassisted goal which allowed AJ to prevail 2-0.
Ryan Burgess played the entire game in goal and had five saves
in recording the shutout.
AJ defenders Brandon Neal and Ryan Arioli played
their usual solid match and McKenzie Dinkins and Denton Clements played
well in midfield for AJ.
Central High School of Pageland posted a Region IV-AA soccer win over Buford, prevailing 189-210.
Trent Hutto earned medalist honors, posting a 43.
Other CHS scores were Trent Hutto 43, Samantha Melton had a 44. Ryan Graves had a 50 and David Dale followed with a 52.
Tucker Griffin led the Jackets with a 51. Kyle Cato shot a 52 and Cannon Catoe registered a 53, a shot ahead of Josh Vincent’s 54.
Vance High School edge Indian Land in girls soccer, taking a 2-1 win over the eighth-rated Lady Warriors.
Hanna Honer’s goal snapped a 1-all draw for what proved to be the winning goal in the second half.
Indian Land’s lone goal came on Shalyn Dougherty’s unassisted goal in the first half. Ana Karen Olmedo tied the match with a goal before the first half ended.
IL, 10-5, had 18 shots on goal to eight for Vance.
Bella Mia posted seven saves for the Lady Warriors.
