The University of South Carolina at Lancaster Lancers prepared for their first-ever trip to the NJCAA Region X baseball tournament with a pair of home wins Saturday at the Lancaster High baseball field.
The Lancers, 16-30, downed Florence-Darlington Technical College 11-10 and 9-3.
In the one-run win over the Stingers, the Lancers used six hurlers, with Timmy Wilson getting the win in an inning of work. He allowed a run, two hits and a walk. Wilson struck out one. Trent Frala hurled two frames to post the save. Frala allowed two runs, two hits and a walk.
Aaron Story pitched an inning and allowed a hit and struck out one. Thomas Little hurled a frame and yielded two runs, two hits and a walk. He whiffed one. Chris Wall pitched an inning and gave up four runs, two hits and a pair of walks. Rick Davis also tossed an inning and surrendered a walk.
The Lancers were productive at the plate with Ryan Burt drilling a hit and clubbing a three-run home run. Pierce Labrador had a single, homer and drove in two runs. Kyle Heffner had a hit and belted a solo home run. Evan Jumper smashed a two-run homer.
Dyson Coker and Lanier Cason each had two hits and drove in a run. Dee Jones supplied a single and a double.
Ben Pinckney and Michael Cobb each had a hit for the Lancers.
USCL completed the sweep with its six-run win.
Derek Parker paced the Lancers’ offense with two doubles and two RBIs. Chip Mallory and Trey Thames each had two hits and drove in two runs. Nick Hartman drilled two hits. Kyle Heffner laced a double. Mobley Jeter added a hit and drove in a run. Kyle Hohman had a hit and Ryan Burt drove in a run.
Harrison Culp, one of six pitchers to work the mound for USCL, was the winner in an inning of work. He allowed a hit and a walk.
Ryan Burt pitched an inning and fanned one. Christian Dickson worked two frames and yielded two hits and a walk. He fanned two. Shawn Thomas pitched an inning and allowed a hit and struck out two. Timmy Wilson hurled an inning and gave up three runs, a hit and a walk. Chad Thompson, in an inning of work, surrendered no runs, a hit and a walk. He fanned one.
USCL opens Region X play, facing USC-Sumter at 7 p.m. today at Sims Park in Gastonia, N.C.
The winner faces the winner of the Florence-Darlington Tech vs. Guilford Tech game on Thursday. The losers will play Thursday.
