Lancers take three wins to open season

The University of South Carolina at Lancaster baseball team opened the season in splendid fashion, taking three of four wins over Stanley Community College of Albermarle, N.C.

The three wins included a sweep of the Lancers’ home opener, a twin bill on Sunday at the Lancaster High School baseball field – Doomsday Corner.

The Lancers capped the doubleheader sweep with an 8-7 win over Stanley.

Tripp Faulk’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Lancers to the one-run win.

Andrew Ansley, one of five USCL pitchers used, was the winner. He allowed two walks.

Kyle Pressley, the starter, worked 3.1 innings and gave up four runs, five hits, four walks and four earned runs. He fanned one.

Jacob Hill went a third of an inning and allowed a run, one hit and two walks. He whiffed one.

Alex Davidson, in 1.2 innings, allowed two runs, a hit and two earned runs. He struck out two.

Cam Baker, in two-thirds of an inning, struck out one and allowed two hits.

Corey Frye led the offense with two hits. Will Simpson and Cody Clack each had a hit and drove in a run.

USCL opened the sweep with a 5-4 victory over Stanley on Sunday afternoon.

Kyle Downs, in 1.1 innings of relief, was the winner, allowing a walk.

Former Lancaster High School standout hurler Trevor Hammond, who worked 6.2 innings, posted a no decision. He gave up four runs, five hits, a walk and two earned runs. Hammond, a right-hander, fanned two.

Trey Deason led the Lancers’ offense with two hits. Beau Brooks had a hit and drove in two runs.

Casey Cooper and Will Simpson each had a hit and drove in a run. Richie Poston added a hit for USCL.

The Lancers launched the season Saturday at Stanley Community College where they split a doubleheader.

USCL took a 9-6 win in game two with Stanley on Saturday afternoon.

Dylan Parker posted the win in five innings of work. He allowed six runs, seven hits and a walk. He fanned three.

Casey Seay notched the save, going two frames and yielding a hit and two walks. Seay whiffed two.

Casey Cooper paced the USCL offense with four hits. Seay supplied two hits and drove in a run. Matt Tanner and Cody Clack each had two hits. Beau

Brooks drilled a two-run double.

Will Simpson and Tripp Faulk each had a hit and drove in a run. Corey Frye

added a hit.

Stanley opened the twin bill with a 7-6 win over the Lancers.

Kyle Kiker was the winner, while Tyler Martin took the loss.

Tripp Faulk led the Lancers with two hits, three runs batted in and scored

two runs. Casey Cooper had two hits and drove in two runs.

Corey Frye and Trey Deason each had a hit, while Casey Seay rapped a double.

Cody Clack had a run batted in.

John McClure went 3.2 innings and allowed two runs, two hits, five walks

and an earned run. He struck out five.

Cam Baker, in 1.2 innings, allowed three hits and a walk. Jacob Hill, in

an inning of work, gave up four runs, four hits and three earned runs. He

fanned two. Tyler Martin, in two thirds of a frame, allowed a run, hit,

walk and an earned run. He fanned one in taking the loss.

The Lancers travel to Gaffney to face Limestone today at 1 p.m.
