USCL soccer signees

University of South Carolina at Lancaster women’s soccer coach Randy Jordan hopes a Good Friday signing will turn out good for the USCL soccer program.

Jordan signed a pair of Fort Mill High standouts, Lady Yellow Jackets’ ace keeper Hattie Ruch and midfielder Shelby Bazemore, on Friday.

“We’re getting two good student athletes from a quality high school program,” Jordan said. “They’re going to help us change the direction of our program.”

Ruch, who has played four seasons of soccer for Fort Mill, has allowed two goals in 14 matches this season for the fourth ranked Lady Yellow Jackets in Class AAA.

Bazemore, in her first season of soccer, is a key performer in her senior campaign with the Lady Yellow Jackets.

“We have great coaches here and I feel it’s a great school,” said Ruch, who also played three years of basketball at the York County Class AAA school. “It makes me feel proud to be a part of this program.”

Ruch, who describes her play as “aggressive” and a player who encourages her teammates, also has played three seasons with the Charlotte United, a Classic soccer team and a member of the Charlotte Junior Soccer Association.

Bazemore said playing at USCL would be a key start for her.

“This is going to be a good base for me,” Bazemore said. “I think we’re going to be able to move up and help make this program better.”

Jordan is also hopeful.

“We’ve made some strides with our program and it’s a building process and we feel these girls along with our other signees are going to help us have more success. We look forward to them being a part of our program.”
