The USCL Lancer’s softball team opens its 2011 home schedule with four games with Florence-Darlington Tech this weekend.

The Lancers softball team meets the Lady Stingers today at 1 p.m. at the Lancaster High School softball field. Game two is set for 3 p.m. A twin bill is also set for Saturday.

Last weekend, the Lady Lancers ventured to Sumter to play the Lady Fire Ants in Region X play.

The Lady Lancers were defeated by the Fire Ants in four games, but they did not go down without a battle. The Lancers played well in all four games as the bats heated up. They were led in hitting by Jena Hallman, Jordan Boone and Leslie Pressley as they had hits in almost every game this past weekend.  Cherrelle Cousar also chipped in a few hits and drove in a few runs. Cousar also missed her third homer of the season as she was robbed by a Fire Ants’ outfielder at the fence in the final game on Sunday.

“Our hitting and fielding were a lot better and you could see the confidence the team had at the plate and on the field,” USCL assistant Kevin Thompson said.

USCL hosts USC-Salkehatchie on April 9-10.
