Lancers fall twice at Salkehatchie

The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers opened their season, dropping two games to USC Salkehatchie in Allendale on Sunday, Feb. 3.

The Indians swept the Lancers, 10-8 and 3-1.

In the opener, the Indians took the win with a two-run homer to seal the two-run win.

Logan Segee, who worked an inning in relief, took the loss, allowing three hits, three runs and three earned runs.

Stuart Pound went five frames, allowing nine hits, seven runs, five runs. Pound fanned five batters.

Nick Sergakis led the USCL offense with four hits in five plate trips.

Byron Haag had two hits, including a three-run home run. Wade Arduini supplied two hits as did Chaztin Venezia.

Colt Ellis had a hit and drove in two runs. Bryan Dye drilled a hit and drove in a run. Randy Luckett added a hit.

The Lancers fell in the nightcap, dropping a 3-1 loss to the Indians.

Wade Arduini worked six innings and allowed six hits, a walk and three runs – all earned.

Adruini had a hit and drove in a run to lead the offense.

Randy Luckett, Chaztin Venezia, Bryan Dye, and Julian Steen each had a hit for the Lancers.

USCL will travel to Gaffney on Wednesday, Feb. 6 to face the Limestone University Junior Saints in a twin bill. Game one is at 1 p.m., with the nightcap at 3.

 USCL opens its home season Sunday with a pair of games with USC Salkehatchie at the Lancaster High field. The opener is at 1 p.m., with game two at 3.
