In the Lancaster County Treasurer’s Office, we pride ourselves on providing quality customer service. So we can better serve you and assist you with any questions or problems, it’s important that you know what my office does – as well as what it does not do.

As Lancaster County treasurer, I am responsible for collecting property taxes and serving as the county’s banker, maintaining the county’s bank accounts.

While the treasurer is responsible for collecting taxes, we are not responsible in setting tax rates or determining how much to collect in taxes. Other agencies and elected officials are responsible for these functions:

u Local elected officials, such as Lancaster County Council, the Lancaster County School District, Lancaster City Council, Heath Springs Town Council and Kershaw Town Council are responsible for passing budgets and determining how much is needed to be collected in taxes.

u The Assessor’s Office, (803) 285-6964, which works for Lancaster County government, is responsible for determining appraisal values for real property in the county.

u The auditor (803), 285-7424, who is elected by voters countywide, is responsible for calculating the taxes due based upon the assessments provided by the assessor and the budget needs of the various local governments.

If you have questions, please feel free to stop by our office at the Lancaster County Administration Building downtown Lancaster or you can call us at (803) 285-7939. You can also get more information by looking up the treasurer’s website: www.mylancastersctax.org.
