Lancaster tops Camden

Lancaster Post 31 rallied to rebound for a 12-9 comeback win over Camden Post 17.Lancaster, down 9-8, used the long ball to take the lead for good in the Post 31 sixth inning on Tuesday night.Khoury Hammond unloaded a three-run home run to put Lancaster up 11-9.An inning later, Post 31 added an insurance run as Nick Ferguson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home a Lancaster run.“The win was good for us, especially since we were coming off a tough loss to Fort Mill in our League V opener on Monday night,” said Lancaster coach Rashad Cunningham. “After a loss like that, you just need to get back out there and try to get on track and we did.“I was happy for our guys,” Cunningham said.Lancaster, on Monday night, held a 9-1 lead on Fort Mill Post 43, but saw the visitors rally to take the 13-11 win.Right-hander Matt Woods, who worked 3.2 innings in relief, was the winner. The second-year hurler allowed no runs, two hits and two walks. He fanned one.“We were able to get the lead and then Matt held them for the win,” Cunningham said.First-year Post 31 right-hander  Tyler Vaughn worked 5.1 inning before yielding to Woods, who completed the game.Vaughn allowed nine runs, seven hits, three  walks and hit a batter. He struck out six.Hammond led the Lancaster offense with two hits and three runs batted in.Josh Eubanks had two hits and drove in two runs.Rico Robinson and Josh Warfield had two hits and drove in a run. Matt Schipani supplied two hits.Darius Cherry chipped in a hit and drove in a run.Trevor Hammond and Woods each had a hit.Lancaster and Camden are slated to meet again later this season in Camden. The game was originally set for May 19, but moved to a later date due to a schedule conflict with a high school athletic awards night.Post 31 hosted Clover in League V play on Thursday night. The game was completed after The News’ deadline for Friday’s edition. See Sunday’s paper for a report on the game.The Post 31 senior team will be off until June 10 when it returns to action in a League V clash with Clover.Games that week will have Post 31 hosting Rock Hill Post 34 on June 12 and visiting Fort Mill Post 43 for a 7 p.m. game on June 13.The Post 31 junior team, which is 1-2 on the season, traveled to Rock Hill Post 34 for a League V junior baseball game Thursday.The junior squad of coach Michael Anderson caps its schedule with a non-League V game with Charlotte on Saturday at 7 p.m. The junior team has three games set for next week, starting with a Monday home game with York at 7 p.m. in League V play.The juniors host Clover on Thursday at 7 p.m. and travel to Gaffney on June 7.Gaffney, Clover and York are new junior members in League V play.The junior team, snapping a two-game skid, rebounded with an 11-2 road win over Chester on Monday night in League V play.Eric Mojica hurled five innings for the win, yielding two hits, a run and three walks. Mojica aided his cause with a hit.Will Gaston pitched two innings and allowed a run and struck out two. Gaston backed the Lancaster cause with a hit.Adam Eubanks led the juniors’ offense with two hits and a triple. Kendall Adams had a hit and drove in two runs for the Lancaster juniors.
