An accident between a pickup and a logging truck near the entrance to Resolute Forest Products in York County injured a Lancaster man Wednesday morning, Oct. 16

The accident occurred about 6:40 a.m. as logging truck driver Ulysses Oliver, of Lancaster, was driving north on S.C. 5, followed by Elwyn “Ebb” Merle Tyre, also of Lancaster, driving a 1998 Ford F-150, said S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bill Elder.

According to Elder and witnesses, Tyre's pickup rear-ended the loaded trailer when Oliver slowed to turn. The impact impaled Tyre’s F-150 on a log that went through the windshield and out the back of the cab, causing the pickup to overturn.

Tyre, 61, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, where his condition was unknown at press time Thursday.

Oliver, 35, was not injured.

Elder said the accident remains under investigation.
