Lancaster hosts Debs 18U state tournament

A state championship tournament berth will be on the line this weekend as the Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission hosts the Debs 18U state tournament.
The tournament’s opening ceremonies are today, July 11, at the Springdale Recreation Complex.
The Lancaster County Debs 18U all-star team is led by coach Rick Sims.
The tournament field includes Marion, Union, Kershaw County, Jefferson, Pee Dee, Florence, Georgetown and host Lancaster County.
Play begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Springdale Complex fields 2-3.
The opening games include Georgetown vs. Florence and Pee Dee vs. Jefferson. Games at noon have Kershaw County facing  Union and Lancaster County playing Marion.
Each team plays two games on opening day, with the two losers bracket games at 4 p.m. The two winners bracket games will be played at 6 p.m.
Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under.
Souvenirs and concessions will be sold at the tournament.
Dixie X-play teams head to state
Lancaster County Parks and Recreation will field two all-star squads in the Dixie Softball X-play state tournaments, a 10-under Angels team, and an 11-12 Ponytails team.
Coach Todd Funderburk will guide the 10-under Angels X-play. Will Wren leads the 11-12 Ponytails X-play team.
The two teams will play in the state tournaments in Bluffton, where the tournaments open today, July 11.
