AJ victory caps unbeaten region season

Andrew Jackson wrapped up the Region IV-AA softball crown with an 8-3 win over county rival Buford on Thursday night at AJ.
AJ pitcher Lauren Rowell went the distance for the Lady Vols, 23-3, 10-0. She struck out two and allowed seven hits and a walk.
“Lauren Rowell threw quality pitches all night and Kori had the big hit for us,” AJ coach Steve Middleton said.
Kori Ballard provided the big stick for the top-rated Lady Vols, drilling three hits, including a long three-run home run. She also had three RBIs.
Summer Truesdale had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Jamee Blackmon supplied two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
Halle Thompson smashed a double and Angela Sims had a hit and drove in a run. Haley Faulkenberry added a hit for AJ.
Ashley Williams had a sacrifice and was hit by a pitch.
“When we started the season, we set six goals,” Middleton said. “We wanted to win the Lancaster County tournament, get 20 wins and win the region, We’ve accomplished three. The fourth goal is the district tournament, then the Upper State and the state title. We have a bunch of role players who understand their roles. We find a way to win.”
BHS’s Carley Bailey took the loss, allowing 10 hits. She fanned one.
Bailey triggered the Buford offense with two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Mikayla Hannah had a double.
Erica Blackmon, Carson Mehaffey, Hannah Knight and Courtney Ackerman each had a hit. Kelsi Moser drove in a run. Daphne Honeycutt had a sacrifice and a RBI.
Clover top LHS girls
Clover ignited for four runs in the sixth inning and held on for a 4-2 win over Lancaster to clinch the Region III-AAAA softball crown Friday at the LHS softball field.
Lancaster senior hurler Erin Walker allowed four runs, 10 hits and no walks.
Elizabeth Gaston led the Lady Bruins with a double and a single. Walker drilled a double and scored a run. Claire Brown had a RBI on a groundout to score Kaela Robinson.
“We battled and fell short today, but when you look back and we were 2-8 at one point this season and then we fought back to have a chance to play for the region title, you really have to be proud of these girls,” LHS coach Kim Perry said. “We could have rolled over, but we picked it up and played with a purpose and displayed a great deal of heart. We will learn from this loss and prepare for the playoffs and give it our best shot.”
Following the game, the Lady Bruins’ seniors were honored – Erin Walker, Porter Sistare and manager Autumn Robinson.
Lancaster, 11-10, 6-4, rolled to a 22-0 win over Spartanburg on Thursday night at home to put it in position to play for the region title.
Senior pitcher Erin Walker hurled a perfect game and struck out 11 SHS batters.
Claire Brown paced the LHS offense with four hits and drove in three runs. Jada Adams had three hits and three RBIs. Walker rapped two hits and drove in three runs.
Katy Ghent and Elizabeth Gaston each had two hits and two RBIs. Kaile Glover, Porter Sistare and Kaela Robinson had two hits apiece. Pagan Glenn added a hit for the Lady Bruins.
LHS hosts a playoff game Thursday.
Central downs IL girls
Central of Pageland topped Indian Land 6-5 in Region IV-AA softball play on Thursday.
Kayla Price, 10-6, took the loss for the Lady Warriors, allowing six hits. Kassie Mann was the winner for Central.
Jakia Seagers homered for Central, which rallied from a 5-1 deficit to notch the comeback win.
Liz Myers had two hits, including a double, for the IL girls. Kelsi Funk had a double and drove in two runs. Haley Vachon supplied a double.
AJ jayvees win
The Andrew Jackson junior varsity softball team downed Buford 6-3 on Thursday at AJ.
Lindsey Robinson was the winner and Sydney Sullivan took the loss for BHS.
Robinson yielded three hits and four walks. She struck out seven. Sullivan struck out three. She allowed seven hits and two walks.
Kinsley Adams led the AJ attack with two hits. Rylee Sims had a single and drove in three runs. Savannah McKittrick, Morgan Bailey, Haley Vincent and Kensley Younge each had a hit. Brooke Brewer had a sacrifice and two RBIs. Natalie Robertson had a sacrifice.
Buford was led by Nicole Hudson, who had a single, double and drove in two runs. Sullivan drilled a triple. Adrianna Ray had a sacrifice and a RBI. Cassidy Solomon drew two walks and scored twice.
