The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers outlasted country foe Buford, 3-2 for their first volleyball win this season.
“We were real pleased to get the win in a tough match,” AJ coach Meg Faile said. “We still need some adjusting in our game.”AJ visit North Central on Monday.LHS tennis team winsThe Lancaster High School girls tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Fort Mill.LHS singles winners were Lyndsay Hegler, Morgan Gardner, Rebecca Simpson and Haley Heath. In doubles, Hegler-Gardner won at No. 1 doubles and Sara Hicks-McKenzie Blanton won at No. 2.The Hicks-Blanton had the most exciting match.After falling behind and losing the first set, they fought back and won a second set tiebreaker and the deciding 10-point tiebreaker to seal the win.LHS cross country winsThe Lancaster High boys cross country team swept a four-way meet at Indian Land with the Bruins topping the field with 32 points. Camden Military followed with 51 points. IL had 62 points and North Central had 92.LHS’s Wylie Penegar was first with a 20:48, with Drew Burn second in 21:17 and Graham Taylor sixth, 23:13.IL’s top finisher was John Cutrone in fifth, 22:50. He was followed by Sammy Dorham in seventh, 23:19 and Thomas Harris ninth in 23:40.In the girls’ meet, Indian Land won with a 32. LHS was second in 37 and North Central was third with 38.The top IL finishers were Courtney Whitten in second, 26:40. Shenita Roseboro was fifth overall with a 29:51, followed by Marcie Frank in sixth (30.01), Sierra Sypula seventh (32:46). Kaitlyn Lusk ran a 36:05 to place 11th overall.Top LHS finishers were: 3. Brooke Penegar, 28:37; 4. Courtney Cauthen, 29:47; 9. Kelsey Carter, 33:18.The Lancaster High School girls cross country team fell to Spring Valley 20-54 on Tuesday at Rock Hill.The LHS finishers were 8. Courtney Cauthen (27:50), 10. Brooke Penegar (29:04), 11. Ashley Null (31:36), 12. Caitlin Sitte (31:38) and 13. Kelsey Carter (34:17).The LHS teams competed in the Trojan Invitational with the boys placing 12th with 330 points. LHS finishers: 27. Wylie Penegar, 18:13; 39. Drew Burn, 18:30; 85. Graham Taylor, 21:34; 89. Grayson Snipes, 21:49; 90. Jordan Caroway, 21:50; and 94. Peyton Brumfield, 22:29.In the girls’ meet, the Lady Bruins scored 326 points to place 11th. LHS finishers: 61. Brooke Penegar, 25:03; 69. Courtney Cauthen, 26:26; 74. Kelsey Carter, 28:21; 77.
