Lady Jackets top Lady Vols

The Buford Lady Jackets launched regular-season softball play in impressive fashion, taking a 3-2 win over county rival Andrew Jackson on Tuesday.

The fifth-rated Lady Vols held an early 2-0 lead, but BHS rallied for the one-run win.

BHS’s Lindsey Pressley scored the winning run after walking in the fourth and taking second on a wild pitch. She stole third and came home when winning hurler Jena Hallman put down a sacrifice bunt.

AJ threatened in the sixth when Tristan Faile tripled, but was stranded at third when Hallman retired the side. In the seventh, Hallman  had two of her seven strikeouts to cap the win. Hallman walked two and allowed five hits.

Catie Rowell led BHS with two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Jordan Boone, Kayla Lloyd and Hannah Knight each had a hit for Buford.

Lauren Kirk, Casey Hammond and Caryn Truesdale each had a hit for AJ.

Kori Ballard took the loss, yielding five hits and a walk. She fanned six.

Buford hosts Lewisville today.

Bruins down Vols

Lancaster rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to take a 9-4 win over county rival Andrew Jackson on Tuesday night.

LHS, 2-0, tied the game with a four-run fourth as Will Gaston highlighted the frame with a three-run home run.

Josh Warfield had a hit and drove in two runs. Trevor Hammond also had a hit.

Kendall Adams, who worked four frames, was the winner, allowing three runs, two hits and a walk. He fanned six. Ron Trapps started and went an inning, allowing a hit, walk, run and hit two batters. He fanned one. Hammond hurled two innings and fanned two.

AJ’s Daniel Pardue hurled 3.1 innings and yielded four runs, a hit and two walks. Tripp Rollings, who took the loss, went 2.1 innings. He surrendered five runs, four walks, a hit and hit a batter. Rollings fanned one. Adam Eubanks fanned one in relief.

Pardue paced AJ  with two hits and two RBIs. Tyler Rogers and Corey Ingram each had a hit.

Jackets clip CHS Eagles

Buford presented first-year Jackets baseball coach Eric Funderburk his first win, a 9-6 victory over the Class AA Central Eagles.

Colt Ellis, 1-0, was the winner in six frames of work, posting 10 strikeouts. He allowed five runs, seven hits and three walks. Ricky Lewis worked an inning, fanning one and allowing two walks.

Lewis and Gavin Flynn led the Jacket attack with two hits and two runs batted in each. Joe Wright also had two hits in the Jackets’ 10-hit attack. Logan Segee, Cheyne Horne, Colt Ellis and Donald Kirkley each had a hit and drove in a run.

Following the game, Funderburk was presented the game ball in honor of his first win at his high school alma mater.

Lady Volunteers win

Andrew Jackson improved to 4-1 on the season, taking a 3-2 softball win over Class AAAA Hartsville on Wednesday night.

Samantha Pardue was the winner, fanning six. He allowed a hit and two walks.

Casey Hammond led the AJ offense with a double, single and scored twice. Tristan Faile had a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Caryn Truesdale had a hit and drove in a run. Kori Ballard had a RBI.

LHS girls fall to York

The Lancaster High softball team fell to 0-2, dropping a 3-2 loss to York in 10 innings. Courtney Cauthen took the loss, fanning nine and allowing three walks.

Cauthen had two hits. Anna Howey and Claire Brown each had a hit for the Lady Bruins.

In LHS jayvee softball play, the Junior Lady Bruins downed Clover 6-4 as Erin Walker fanned eight and allowed five hits. Walker also had a hit.

Katy Ghent, Anna Grier and Tashida Scott each had a double. Pagan Glenn and Danielle Mackey each chipped in a hit.

The Junior Lady Bruins downed York 8-5 as Walker fanned 14 and allowed six hits and no walks.

 Ghent and Anna Grier each had three hits. Walker had a hit and a triple.

Shavontai Graham and T’Aria Ingram had two hits apiece. Scott tripled to aid the Junior Lady Bruins’ attack.
