The Buford Lady Yellow Jackets hit the road again Thursday in hopes of continuing their postseason run in the Class AA Upper State softball playoffs.
The Lady Jackets, who captured the district softball title, downed Pendleton, 12-6 in a Class AA Upper State championship round elimination game on Wednesday, May 8.
Buford, which was rained out with Pendleton on Monday night at PHS, made a trip to Pendleton on Tuesday when the game was played, but not completed.
The game Tuesday was rained out in the top of the fifth inning with the game tied at 4-all.
The game was resumed on Wednesday when the Lady Jackets took the six-run win to stay alive in the softball playoffs.
Ashley Lloyd, who posted the win, worked four-plus innings, allowing seven hits, two walks and four runs. Lloyd whiffed three batters.
Senior Carley Bailey also pitched and fanned two PHS batters. She allowed a hit, three walks and two runs.
Bailey, Lloyd, Carson Mehaffey and Cassidy Solomon each supplied three hits.
Solomon drove home four runs.
Mikayla Hannah and Erica Blackmon each contributed two hits for Buford.
Mehaffey, Lloyd, Hannah and Erica Blackmon each had two RBIs.
Should Buford win, the Lady Jackets travel to Crescent to face the Lady Tigers today.
The BHS girls will need two wins to capture the Class AA Upper State softball championship and a bid to the state title series next week.
Buford opened the Class AA Upper State title series, dropping a 5-4 road loss to Chesterfield on Saturday, May 4.
