The Buford High School Lady Jackets were impressive in launching defense of their title in the annual Comporium Christmas Classic at Andrew Jackson High School on Thursday, Dec. 28.

The Lady Jackets, in the opening game of the afternoon session, swarmed the Great Falls Lady Red Devils, 57-35.

The 22-point Buford win gave the 10th-ranked BHS girls their third win over the Great Falls girls this season.

“We really had a fine team effort today,” Buford High School coach T.J. Armbrust said. “We had some people step up for us today and we had all of our players score but two.

“I really like the way we came through and played as a unit,” Armbrust said. “I like the way we came in here and played well.”

Buford opened a 12-7 lead after one period and used a 22-13 second-period surge to gain a 34-20 spread at the break.

Buford High School senior veteran Carley Bailey, who paced the Lady Jackets with 20, hit 10 points in each half to spark the win.

Buford, continuing its stellar play, opened a 51-28 lead after three quarters and cruised to the win.

“Carley had a big game for us,” Armbrust said. “She gave us a great senior effort. She did a good job of getting open out there and we did a good job of getting the ball to her.”

Tatyana Stewart hit 11 points and Adrianna Ray netted nine. Mikayla Hannah hit seven and Gabby Davis tallied six.

Megan Deese and Valerie Jones each scored two points.

“Our defense kept the pressure on and that was a big key in our win today,” Armbrust said. “I thought we played well at both ends of the court.”

Buford advances to play the winner of the Andrew Jackson vs. North Central game in the girls’ title round today at 6.

Great Falls will play in the girls’ consolation game at 3 p.m. The Lady Red Devils, in the Buford game, were led by Carrie Edwards and Brandie Price who scored 14 points each.

Andrew Jackson met Lewisville in the boys’ nightcap Thursday and Crestwood battled Class AAAA Clover in the boys’ opening evening clash on Thursday.
