Lady Bruins booters win

Junior midfielder Sidney Teague scored from 18 yards out and a solid Lady Bruins’ defensive effort lifted the Lancaster High School girls’ soccer team to a 1-0 win over South Pointe High at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The LHS girls, 10-3, 2-3, peppered the Lady Stallions’ goal with 26 shots, but Teague’s was the only volley to find the back of the net in the tight match.

“We were coming off some tough region losses, so it was good to get back on track in region play,” LHS assistant girls coach Ken Humphrey said. “I wish more shots had fallen, but we will take this win and move on. The last time we played South Pointe, we won 6-1 and they were a much tougher team today. They’ve improved since our first match.”

Humphrey lauded the defensive play of Sarah DeVenny, Anna Funderburk, Ashley Cauthen, Rebecca Sizemore and Bree Morgan.
