Lancaster held on to take a 5-4 win over Cheraw in pool play on Monday night in the Cheraw Spring Break softball tournament.
Erin Walker, who inherited a bases-loaded jam, was able to quell the Lady Braves’ rally, getting a double play for the save. Katy, Ghent, in six innings, was the winner, striking out five. She allowed eight hits and four walks.
Pagan Glenn and Claire Brown led the offense with three hits each. Brown had a RBI and scored a run. Glenn had a double and tallied a run.
Elizabeth Gaston and Ghent each had two hits. Gaston had a double and drove in two runs. Ghent scored a run and drove in a run.
T’Aria Ingram had a hit and drove in a run. Cheyenne Varney had a hit and tallied a run. Erin Walker tallied a run and was hit by a pitch.
In the Lady Bruins’ second pool play game on Monday at Cheraw, Lancaster, up 7-1 and needing three outs to close out the win, fell to McBee, 8-7.
Claire Brown had two hits, including a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Katy Ghent had two hits, including a double, scored two runs, drove in a run and walked.
T’Aria Ingram had two hits and drove in two runs.
Angela Sims had a hit and drove in a run. Crystal Cauthen had a hit, scored a run and walked. Anna Grier and Erin Walker each had a hit and tallied a run. Kaela Robinson had a hit and a sacrifice bunt.
Pagan Glenn scored a run and drove in a run.
Walker struck out six and allowed six hits.
Warriors drop two
Indian Land dropped two losses in the Cheraw Spring Break tournament to open play in the six-team field.
The IL girls fell to Chesterfield, 11-5.
Kayla Price, 7-8, took the loss.
Alli Yarborough had a double and single for the IL girls.
Katie Jowers had two singles and an RBI.
Alex Greenawalt had a single and a double
Beth Martin had two singles and a RBI
Elizabeth Myers had a double and Haley Vachon and Kelsi Funk each had a single.
Buford downed the IL girls, 4-3 as Kelsi Moser was the winning pitcher for BHS.
Kayla Price took the loss.
Price had a single and drove in three runs.
Beth Martin had two singles. Alli Yarborough, Kelly Pauls and Haley Vachon each had single.
The Lady Warriors played two games in the tournament.
