Lady Bruins to host IL in defense of Chester preseason soccer crown

The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins, the two-time Chester Preseason Soccer Tournament champions, will open defense of their crown tonight in a match at Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Bruins will face county rival Indian Land in a 5:30 p.m. match at the stadium to open play in the tournament which features girls and boys teams.

Following the match, the Lancaster boys face Indian Land in a 7 p.m. match.

Day two play continues Saturday in Chester with three matches for each LHS squad.

The Bruins continue play at 9 a.m. when the LHS girls will battle Newberry High School at 9 a.m. The Bruins follow at 10:30 a.m. when they face Newberry.

The Lady Bruins cap play at 2 p.m. when they meet Union. The Bruins will battle Union in a 4 p.m.

The Lancaster High School girls captured the 2010 title, downing Westside High of Anderson, 2-1.

The Lady Bruins held a 2-1 lead at the break and held Westside scoreless for the crown.

Lancaster opened play with a win over Union and then topped York in the semifinals to earn a berth opposite Westside in the 2010 title match.

A year ago, the Lancaster High boys, in their first appearance in the Chester tournament, went 1-0-2. Lancaster tied both teams which played for the tournament title.

 The Bruins will host the 2011 Rose City Classic after capturing the championship last March at the Indian Land High stadium.
