The Lancaster High Lady Bruins posted their second win, ripping Ridge View 11-1 on Tuesday at home. Senior Courtney Cauthen hurled a three-hitter and fanned six. Cauthen aided the softball cause with two hits.
Morgan Blackmon had two hits, including a double. Cherrell Cousar homered and drove in a run. Crystal Cauthen, Almeshea Catoe and Sarah Amason each had two hits. Erin Walker doubled and Candice Benson added a hit for the Lady Bruins.
Lady Jackets win two
The Buford Lady Jackets softball team improved to 6-1, 4-1 in region play, with a 5-0 Conference III-A win over McBee on Tuesday.
Junior hurler Jena Hallman tossed a one-hitter and struck out seven in posting the win. She faced 23 batters and walked one.
Leslie Pressley led the offense with two doubles. Hallman had two clutch sacrifice bunts. Carley Bailey and Catie Rowell each had a hit. Madisson Finley had a sacrifice and was hit by a pitch. Jordan Boone had a hit, was hit by a pitch and had a sacrifice.
Buford launched the week with an 8-5 road win over Northwestern as Hallman, in facing 34 batters, yielded five hits and six walks. She struck out 11, most in the latter innings when she shut down the Class AAAA Trojans.
BHS snapped a 5-all tie in the fifth when Finley and Leslie Pressley delivered RBI-hits. Two innings later, Jordan Boone drilled a RBI-hit.
Jena Hallman led BHS with three hits, including two doubles and a single, and scored a run. Carley Bailey drilled three hits, scored a run and had a stolen base. Finley rapped three hits and scored a run.
Leslie Pressley, Lindsey Pressley, Catie Rowell and Kayla Lloyd each had two hits. Leslie Pressley, who doubled and singled, scored a run. Lindsey Pressley scored twice and had two steals and Lloyd scored a run.
Jordan Boone and Hannah Knight each had a hit in the Lady Jackets’ 19-hit attack. Knight tallied a run.
Buford evens mark
The Buford baseball team, 3-3, 1-2, rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to down county rival AJ 16-6 on Wednesday.
Justin Altman, who worked five innings, was the winner, allowing six runs – two earned. He yielded four hits and two walks. Altman whiffed five.
AJ’s Tripp Rollings, who took the loss, belted a three-run home run in the first inning to key the 4-0 Vols’ lead.
BHS’s Ricky Lewis rapped two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice. Cheyne Horne had two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Colt Ellis and Dillon Hydrick each had a hit, drove in a run and scored three runs. Hydrick walked twice.
Joseph Wright and Logan Segee each had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run. Donald Kirkley had a hit and scored a run. Gavin Flynn stole two bases and scored a run. Jacob Jamison tallied a run.
Chad DiCola had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run for AJ. Tyler Bradley and Tyler Rodgers had a hit and scored a run. Andrew Phillips and Adam Eubanks each scored a run.
BHS defeated McBee 6-1 to post its first league win Tuesday as Colt Ellis went seven frames and tossed a four-hitter. Ellis fanned eight and walked none.
Ellis aided his effort with two hits, a double and a solo home run, a run and a RBI. Hydrick drilled two doubles and tallied twice. Joseph Wright belted a solo homer. Ricky Lewis had a hit and drove in two runs. Cheyne Horne drilled a hit, drove in a run and scored a run. Jacob Jamison had a hit and drove in a run. Britt Wells scored a run for the Jackets.
Vols sweep Caps
The AJ Vols baseball team improved to 4-0 in Conference IV-AA play with an 8-0 win over Columbia High on Tuesday.
Winner Adam Eubanks worked five innings, allowing a hit and a walk in facing 20 batters. He struck out 11.
Bobby Delly led the offense with two hits and drove in three runs. Daniel Pardue had two hits, two RBIs. Corey Ingram had a home run and a double and drove in a run.
AJ prevailed 9-2 in game two as Pardue hurled five frames and fanned 10 in facing 23 batters. He allowed two runs, two walks and five hits.
Tyler Rodgers drilled two hits and drove in two runs. Tyler Bradley and Corey Ingram each had two hits and a RBI.
AJ routed Keenan 14-2 as Eubanks worked 4.1 innings and fanned eight and yielded no hits last Friday. Eubanks doubled, drove in two and scored twice.
Pardue, who also worked in relief to nailed down the win, doubled, scored three runs and stole four bases. Chad DiCola had two hits, including a double. Bobby Delly had two hits.
Buford golfers win
Buford High prevailed in a four-way golf match, topping the field with a 164 on Tuesday at the Lancaster Golf Club.
Buford’s Taylor Banks and Central’s Ben Miller tied for medalist honors with a 39 each.
Jalen Terry and Trevor Banks each fashioned a 40 and Will Ford carded a 45.
Central shot a 166 and Great Falls had a 189 to AJ’s 197.
AJ was led by Stephen Few’s 46 followed by Jake Bailey’s 47. Alex McLemore carded a 50 and Tanner Threatt had a 51.
Central edged Buford 153-154 in high school golf on Monday.
Tyler Banks shot a 34 to earn medalist honors. Jalen Terry tallied a 37 and Trevor Banks shot a 38. Brandon Watts posted a 45. Central was led by Miller’s 35.
Bruins drop two games
The Lancaster Bruins dropped a pair of prep baseball games.
LHS fell to York 7-6 on Wednesday as Kendall Adams took the home loss in four frames of work. He allowed three hits and fanned four. He was hurt by two errors. Josh Warfield worked three scoreless frames in relief with two whiffs.
Michael Catoe had three hits and drove in two runs. Joseph Threatt clouted a two-run homer. Will Gaston had a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Trey Cauthen added a RBI-hit.
LHS fell to Ridge View 5-2 on Tuesday as Catoe took the loss, allowing seven hits and two walks in five innings. Adams worked a scoreless frame.
Catoe led the offense with three hits. Brian Gainer and Trey Cauthen each had RBI hits.
