The Lancaster High Lady Bruins' volleyball team is 2-1 on the season after two non-region wins.

The LHS girls opened the season with a 3-0 win over the Buford High Lady Jackets, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-13.

Amirah Steward and Alexis Williams led in kills with seven each. Keyotta Garris had six.

Stevie Sweeney posted eight assists, while Ashley Abbott had seven digs. Sweeney added three service aces.

In a Thursday, Aug. 28 tri-match, the LHS split with North Central and Clover high schools.

Lancaster defeated Clover 25-22 and 25-15, but fell to North Central, 25-15 and 25-15.

Lancaster, in the win over Clover, was led by Hayden Thorne's five kills. Keyotta Garris had four kills and Amirah Steward added three.

Stevie Sweeney posted three assists, and Ashley Abbott registered 11 digs.

Abbott had five service aces and Garris added three.

“ We made adjustments and played well against Clover that ended up helping us beat Clover for the first time since I've been here,” LHS coach Betsi O'Shields said. “We have also played tight sets with Clover and we finally overcame them and won.

“We came out flat and not prepared to play against North Central,” O'Shields said. “The cohesive team that beat Buford was lackluster against NC.”

Hayden and Alexis Williams each had three kills for LHS. Ashley Abbott notched nine digs and Abbott and Amari Jefferson each had one service ace.

LHS visits Buford to face the BHS Lady Jackets today, Sept. 3. The Lady Bruins visit Marvin Ridge of Union County, N.C., on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Lancaster hosts South Pointe of Rock Hill in region play Sept. 18.
