KARE seeks to help others

-A A +A

People who are receiving federal emergency unemployment compensation (EUC) are soon seeing a change in their benefits. The U.S. Department of Labor requires that all benefit payments for the period of March 1, 2013, and Sept. 30, 2013, must be reduced through automatic, across-the-board spending cuts to the federal budget.
If someone is receiving benefits during this time period, there are three weeks that they will not receive benefits – May 18, July 13 and Aug. 31.
The people who are being affected and losing income are the ones who are already unemployed. Household income has already been reduced by the loss of a job and now even significantly lower due to federal budget cuts.
I am not an expert in economics, but I do know how this cut can affect a home. Decisions have to be made as to whether to pay power bill, water bill, rent/ mortgage and even groceries.
I would like to make those affected aware that there are many wonderful agencies in Lancaster County that can help and want to help in this difficult time.
I encourage everyone to call 2-1-1 to find local information to help a family member, a friend, or yourself 24   hours a day seven days a week. It’s easy and confidential. Contact KARE at (803) 475-4173 for assistance or resource referral.
