The Lancaster Post 31 American Legion junior team capped its week with a resounding 11-1 bruising  of Clover Blue, on Wednesday, June 12.

Byron Heigler paced the 10-run Lancaster juniors’ victory with a complete game pitching effort, which included four strikeouts.

Heigler also aided his cause with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Lancaster laced seven hits in the win.

Brooks Viola supplied a double and drove home a run. Austin Pate also had a hit and a RBI.

Wesley Knight, Gage Hinson, Austin Caskey and Trevor Cauthen each had a hit. Corey Walters added a RBI.

“Byron Heigler gave us a solid effort on the mound and we backed him with some offense and runs,” Lancaster coach Gavin Flynn said. “It was good to be back at home and get a win.”

Lancaster was coming off a split at Clover on Tuesday, June 11. The game was originally set for Monday, but moved a day ahead due to heavy rain and wet field conditions.

The P-31 juniors opened the twin bill with Post 38, notching a 5-1 win.

Eric Miles hurled a complete game and allowed one hit in a solid mound outing. Miles backed his cause with a RBI.

Wesley Knight triggered the Lancaster offense with a pair of doubles. Byron Heigler chipped in two hits and drove home a run.

Austin Pate chipped in a hit and Austin Caskey drove home a run with a sacrifice fly.

“This was our first game back in play going back to late last month and I thought we responded with a good team effort in the opener,” Flynn said. “Eric threw well to earn the win.”

In the nightcap, Clover earned the split with a 13-10 win in a high-scoring contest.

Brooks Viola worked 2.2 frames and had five strikeouts for Lancaster.

Brady Horton paced the 14-hit Lancaster juniors’ attack with four hits. Wesley Knight drilled three hits.

Austin Pate and Eric Miles each had two hits and one RBI apiece. Austin Caskey contributed a hit and drove in three runs. Viola added a hit and drove in a run.

Trevor Cauthen posted a hit and Cameron Payne produced a RBI.

The Lancaster juniors, 4-4 overall, 4-1 in League V play, host Rock Hill Post 34 on Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m.

The Lancaster Post 31 senior team was slated to be in action Thursday, June 13 when it hosted Clover Post 38 at 7 p.m.

The Lancaster seniors are led by first-year head coach Marc Rape, who is assisted by Brant Barnes and Zach Rollings.

The P-31 athletic officer is Scott Cato.

 The P-31 seniors visit Fort Mill Post 43 on Tuesday, June 18 at 7 p.m.
