Juniors blank York 6-0

The Lancaster Post 31 junior Legion baseball team kept pace in League V play, blanking York 6-0 at Eggleton Field on Thursday night.

Zack Rollings, who worked five innings, was the winner, allowing no runs and only three hits. He fanned five and yielded three walks.Dillon Hydrick completed the shutout, hurling two frames and posting three strikeouts.“Zack and Dillon really gave us a quality mound effort,” Lancaster coach Michael Anderson said. “We’re playing well and we really need to keep it going.”Hydrick aided the Lancaster offense with two hits and drove in a run. Trai Sanders also had two hits and a RBI.Rollings backed the attack with a hit and a run batted in. Andrew Smyre supplied a hit and a RBI. Ricky Lewis also had a hit for the winners.Lancaster improved to 8-6, 7-3 in League V games.The Post 31 junior squad visits Clover for a twin bill on Monday and hosts Gaffney for a doubleheader on Tuesday.“Those are some key games for us and we just need to take them as they come and focus on what we have to do,” Anderson said.The twin bill with Gaffney was originally set for June 21, but moved due to a schedule conflict.Seniors’ no-decisionThe Post 31 senior team, fresh off a 10-9 road win over Rock Hill on Tuesday night, was looking to make it two straight at the Chester County Recreation Complex on Friday night.P-31 was three outs from an official game and up 13-8, but a thunderstorm washed out the action.Instead, the game will be reset and, according to Post 31 officials, will begin as a new game when it’s played later this season.“We were that close,” said P-31 athletic officer Mike Lucas. “It’s been a tough season, but our guys are still battling and bidding for a postseason berth. I think our guys will have a hand in deciding how the league race and playoff bids shape out.”Lancaster, 6-11, 3-8, hosts its next-to-last League V game Monday when P-31 faces 7-3 Fort Mill Post 43 which is coming off a League V doubleheader sweep of Clover Post 28.P-31 visits Clover on Thursday.Lancaster visits Rock Hill on July 7 and hosts Chester on July 8.The opening round of the American Legion Upper State playoffs begins July 14 when the best-of-five series starts.
