The Jones’ siblings capped the indoor track season, gaining national honors with a combined effort reaping 11 medals as they competed as unattached athletes at AAU Southern Indoor National Championship hosted by East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., on March 4-5.

The youngest family member, Herbert III, finished first bringing home the gold winning 3000m RW.

He finished fifth in the nation back in August at the AAU Junior Olympics hosted by Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va.

Herbert Jones also placed second with a silver medal in 3,000m and third with a bronze in the 1,500m.

Herbert, an A. R. Rucker Middle School seventh grader, is also a member of the Lancaster High School track and cross country teams.

The LHS freshman Jones’ twins, Jenae and Jennell recently received national honors in cross country in December at the AAU Junior Olympic Nationals hosted by ESPN at the Walt Disney World Resort.

JeNae and Jennell reaped national honors in each of the four events.

JeNae Jones, the elder twin and LHS cross country all-region pick and state qualifier, placed second, winning silver medals in 1,500m and 3,000m RW.

Jenae Jones also finished third in 3000-meter race, winning a bronze medal and was fourth in 800m with a copper medal.

Jennell Jones, also was a member on the LHS state qualifier cross country team, won two silver medals, placing second in the 3,000-meter race walk and 1,500m.

She also won bronze medals, placing fourth in the 3,000 meters and sixth in the 800 meters.

The Jones siblings are looking forward to the high school track season.
